Welcome Wagon / Re: Where/Who are We Now?
Last post by markie - Jan 04, 2023, 11:01 PM
I must have joined Frugal Moms in 1998.  I've been married for 33 years to the bestest man.  We have 2 kids, one who is 31 and another who will be 29 later in the month. We've lived in the same house for 32 years, still our "starter" home.   Ds is married and lives in Singapore, soon to be Korea.  Love my ddil.  Dd is still living with us.  I let my weight get up far too high and had vertical sleeve bariatric surgery in December of 2021.  I've lost 103 lbs so far and have 50 or 60 more pounds to lose. I say I am retired now.  Dh will retire in December of 2023.  I've been approved to be on the local library's board of trustees which will start in 2 weeks.  First volunteer job I've had since ds was in Boy Scouts.

I haven't posted any forum rules yet, but they'll be along the same lines as FFF. No major changes. I don't even think I have a copy of the original FMs rules any more, so I've copied the FFF rules into Evernote as a template and will start working on a simplified version for here.

Right now we have 29 registered members. The original forums had over 8000! So I don't expect too many problems here, and will be taking a pretty relaxed approach to these forums. I prefer to keep things simple and I don't want to spend a lot of time moderating, but need something to point to in case we do get any trolls or troublemakers.

News & Announcements / A Few Tips For Navigating This...
Last post by MsMarieH - Jan 04, 2023, 08:52 AM
Just fyi to help you get around, in case you didn't notice these things...

1) If you look above or below the topic window, you will see a path of the folders where the post is located (also known as "bread crumbs"). This may help you get around quickly. Clicking the Orange HOME button in the top left corner takes you back to the main forum page that shows all the forums.

2) You can tell which forums have new threads by the orange balloon next to the Forum name. You could also see all of the new threads by clicking Unread Posts at the top (right below the Frugal Moms' logo. This will show you every individual post. To the right of Unread Posts in the navigation menu is Updated Topics. Rather than showing all the individual new posts, it will show the threads that have received new posts.

3) If you don't want to re-read posts you have already read, clicking the Orange NEW button next to topic names will take you to the beginning of new posts on that thread. If you click on the thread name, it takes you to the first post in that thread. If you click on the date to the right, it will take you to the last post on that thread.

4) At the top of the columns, you can click on the hyperlinks to sort by that item (subject line, who started the thread, etc.) When you are copying threads over from the other forum, you might find it easier to do your own threads if you sort them by name.

5) To edit posts, you can click Quick Edit just to make content changes. If you want to make other changes, like formatting, click the More button in the bottom right corner, then Modify.

I joined back in 1998.  Got a divorce in 2004.  Still in the same home; love my neighborhood and my neighbors.  Met GC in 2007, and we're still going strong after fifteen years.  We know how lucky we are.  I retired in 2020 (Covid); first year was tough because of the pandemic; now I'm fine with it.  I volunteered at lots of Covid clinics, work very part-time with the Unitarian church in Greenfield  MA, just recently trained to substitute at our local library.  I usher at church, I'm on the scholarship committee, I'm the Church Clerk, help at receptions, volunteer at the local fuel assistance program - I like to keep busy.

Welcome to Frugal Moms! If you are viewing as a guest here, you're only seeing the Welcome Center, which is only a fraction of the boards here. Please register for a free account in order to get the most out of the Frugal Moms Forums.

Thanks,
 Kim :)

UPDATE: Since we're talking about personal stuff here, I have now turned off viewing permissions for guests on everything except this Welcome Center area.

I will go ahead and turn off public viewing to anything except the Welcome Center so that everyone can start moving things over.

Now that we're starting to get settled in over here, I'd ask you all to please move over any posts of yours that you'd like to save from the old forums.

Not everyone is still with us, so if you are moving someone else's post over, be sure to give them credit. (The quote feature is helpful for that.)

If we need to create sub forums or special threads for some posts, just let me know. I'm trying to keep them from sprawling out too much and becoming unmanageable, but totally open to suggestions. I want to make the transition as easy as possible and the new forums easy and fun to use.

Thanks and welcome back!
 Kim :)

Joined FMs in 1998.  I'm actually still on most of the groups that split off, although the rest are all on Facebook.  I am COVID forced retired, which left me just short of 50 years of working in the professional arts, primarily at the Kennedy Center.  I still do props for regional and community theater.  Still work with various dance groups.  My oldest is divorced, one soon to be 8 granddaughter. The younger dd has an 18 month old, and they are living with us. And that part is good.  Dealing with baby daddy is NOT.

We have a cabin --I guess log home would better describe it -- in West VA.  DH spends a lot of time there.  I'm just more of a city girl.  So we go back and forth.
